Get Ready to Test Your Limits at RMSC’s New Super Human: Power of Technology Exhibit!
Hands-on science, friendly competition, and plenty of laughs make this new Rochester Museum & Science Center exhibit a must-visit for families!
What happens when you combine technology, science, and a little friendly competition? You get an adventure that has kids running, experimenting, problem-solving, and discovering just how amazing the human body can be!
I recently had the opportunity to attend the grand opening of Super Human: Power of Technology at the Rochester Museum & Science Center (RMSC), and I brought along my 10-year-old daughter, Annabelle, and her best friend to check it out. From the moment we arrived, the excitement was building, and by the time we left, the girls were already talking about coming back!
The new exhibit officially opened October 2, 2026, and will be at RMSC through May 2, 2027. It explores how technology can enhance human abilities, from helping us move and sense the world to changing the way we interact with our surroundings.
The Fun Started Before We Even Entered the Exhibit!
Our adventure began with some fun, interactive activities before the ribbon-cutting ceremony. The girls got to try making their own Braille cards using a traditional punch system or colorful gem stickers.
Annabelle decided to write her name using both methods, comparing the punched Braille with her sparkly gem version. Her friend got creative and used the gems to make a sentence!
It was a great way to introduce the girls to Braille and how people use touch to communicate and read. They were already learning something new before we even made it into the main exhibit.
Next up was an activity all about hydraulics. The girls learned how hydraulic arms work and then got to build their own working arms. Their mission? Use their creations to knock down a tower of bricks!
Watching them figure out how to move their arms and make them work was a fun reminder that science doesn't have to mean sitting in a classroom. Sometimes, the best way to learn is to build something and see what happens.
After the activities and ribbon cutting, it was finally time to head inside!
Let the Super Human Adventures Begin!
As soon as we climbed the stairs and entered the exhibit, the girls were off and running. There was so much to explore that they immediately wanted to try everything.
One of the things I loved most about Super Human is that it encourages kids to jump right in. Instead of simply reading about science and technology, they get to experience it themselves through interactive challenges that put their bodies, senses, and problem-solving skills to the test.
And with so many different stations to try, there was never a dull moment!
Our Favorite Activities
Race to See How Fast You Can Run
Naturally, the girls were ready for a little competition! One of their favorite activities was racing to see how fast they could run.
This activity gets kids moving while introducing them to the science behind speed, movement, and athletic performance. The exhibit also features a chance to race against a Paralympic sprinter, highlighting how sports technology and prosthetics can help athletes push the boundaries of human potential.
Of course, when you bring best friends together, you know a little friendly competition is bound to happen!
Navigate the Maze in Complete Darkness
This was another big hit with the girls. They got to navigate a dark tunnel without relying on their sight, using their other senses to help guide them.
Parents, here's a fun tip: Keep an eye on the screen while your kids make their way through! The camera views make for some pretty funny photos.
Annabelle looked like a creature of the night, complete with glowing eyes on the camera! It was one of those unexpected moments that made us all laugh.
Beyond the funny pictures, this activity gives kids a chance to think about how they navigate the world when one of their senses isn't available to guide them.
Feel What It's Like to Have Wings
The girls also got to put on wings and experience what it feels like to have wind pushing against them.
This activity explores aerodynamics and how birds inspire some of the technology humans use to move through the air. It's one thing to learn about wind resistance, but it's much more memorable when you can actually feel it for yourself!
Work Together to Beat the Clock
Some activities required more teamwork than others, and the girls had fun working together to beat the clock and put the different human-body devices in their proper places.
They had to think quickly, figure out where everything belonged, and work as a team to finish the challenge.
I love finding activities that encourage kids to collaborate rather than simply compete. It's a great way to mix learning with teamwork and problem-solving.
Test Your Hearing
The girls also explored their hearing and learned more about how we experience sound.
The exhibit helps visitors discover how technology can support or enhance human senses, including hearing. It's an interesting way to get kids thinking about something they use every day but may not spend much time considering.
Take Control of a Robotic Arm
Another exciting stop was the robotic arm activity. The girls got to experiment with controlling a robotic arm and see how technology can translate human movements into actions.
It's the kind of activity that makes you want to keep trying until you get the hang of it. It also gives kids a glimpse into how robotics and assistive technologies can help people accomplish tasks in new ways.
These are just a few of the activities available throughout the exhibit. From exploring prosthetics and body technology to testing your brain and experimenting with different ways to see and move, there is plenty to discover.
An Exhibit Worth Visiting More Than Once
By the end of our visit, Annabelle and her best friend had an absolute blast. They loved trying the different activities, challenging themselves, and seeing what they could accomplish.
And the best part? They want to come back and do it all again soon!
One thing that really stood out to me was how many opportunities there are to repeat the activities. Kids can try something once, figure out how it works, and then give it another go to see if they can improve their performance.
Whether they're trying to beat their running time, navigate the dark tunnel again, or master a hands-on technology challenge, there is a reason to keep coming back.
As a parent, I love exhibits that combine fun with learning in a way that doesn't feel like a lesson. The girls were so busy exploring and laughing that they didn't even realize how much they were learning along the way.
