🍂 DIY Leaf Lanterns – A Fall Craft Kids Will Love

Fall is all about cozy vibes—warm drinks, colorful leaves, and family time. This easy DIY craft combines all three! Kids will love making these glowing leaf lanterns, and you’ll love how simple (and inexpensive) they are to create. They make beautiful autumn decorations for your home, table, or even a Thanksgiving centerpiece.

✂️ What You’ll Need:

  • Mason jar, glass jar, or recycled spaghetti sauce jar
  • Mod Podge (or watered-down white glue)
  • Paintbrush or sponge brush
  • Fall leaves (real, pressed, or faux)
  • Twine, ribbon, or raffia for decoration
  • LED tea light candle (never use real flame with kids)

📝 Directions:

  1. Collect and Prepare Leaves
    • If using real leaves, try pressing them for a day or two so they lay flat. (Tip: slip them between book pages with paper towels on each side.) Faux leaves also work great.
  2. Apply the Glue
    • Using a brush, coat the outside of your jar with a thin layer of Mod Podge.
  3. Add Leaves
    • Gently press your leaves onto the glue, arranging them however you’d like. Overlap them a little for a pretty layered look.
  4. Seal the Design
    • Brush another thin layer of Mod Podge over the leaves to hold everything in place. Don’t worry—it dries clear!
  5. Add Finishing Touches
    • Wrap twine or ribbon around the top of the jar for extra fall flair.
  6. Light It Up
    • Place an LED tea light inside your lantern. Turn off the lights and watch the warm, cozy glow shine through your leaves!

💡 Tips for Success

  • Want more color? Try layering tissue paper with leaves.
  • Use different jar sizes for a lantern “collection” on your mantel or table.
  • Kids can personalize with glitter, stickers, or paint for extra fun.

🌟 Why Families Love This Craft

  • Simple and affordable—most supplies you already have at home.
  • A hands-on way for kids to connect with nature.
  • Creates a reusable decoration you’ll enjoy all season long.

🍁 Whether you’re looking for a rainy-day project or a creative Thanksgiving activity, these DIY leaf lanterns are sure to bring a warm autumn glow to your home.
